Lian joined Turks in 2018.
Lian’s primary area of practice is toxic tort litigation. She regularly acts for the State of NSW and various government agencies in matters arising from exposure to asbestos dust and fibre.
Lian’s matters require detailed consideration of complex liability, causation, foreseeability and contribution issues and require expedited preparation due to the shortened life expectancy of many of the plaintiff’s.
Lian has a detailed understanding of insurance law arising from issues regularly encountered in the consideration of insurance coverage in many of her contribution and recovery claims.
Lian’s negotiation skills are valued by her client’s as the majority of cases in this field are resolved by court ordered mediation.
Lian also acts for government agencies in public liability cases arising from historical abuse allegations.
Lian’s experience in historical matters has resulted in her holding a detailed knowledge of the historical liabilities of many government agencies as well as their insurance succession.
She regularly appears for defendants and cross defendants in the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW, the Supreme Court of NSW, the Supreme Court of VIC and the NSW Court of Appeal.
Lian has presented papers and seminars to clients and industry groups.
Since 2018, Lian has been recommended in the Doyle's Guide as a ‘Leading Dust Diseases Lawyer (Defendant) - New South Wales’.
