Elizabeth Haddow–Allen from TAL is the winner of the 2022 ALUCA Turks Life Insurance Scholarship

Elizabeth, a Client Manager at TAL, has taken out this year’s prestigious ALUCA Turks Life Insurance Scholarship with her outstanding paper on ‘Group Insurance - The impact of the stapling reforms’.

The paper provided a cogent and accessible analysis of the stapling reforms as well as outlining a perceptive and entirely doable roadmap for tweaks to the system to ensure members’ valuable life insurance benefits are not put at risk.

The Scholarship prize is an overseas conference package valued at up to $8,000 including return travel, accommodation, $1,000 cash and registration to one of the following conferences in the USA:

  • 2023 Eastern Claims Conference
  • 2023 Life Insurance Conference
  • 2023 Supplemental Health, DI & LTC Conference

In addition to the major prize, Elizabeth will be invited to:

  • sit on the judging panel for next year’s Scholarship; and
  • speak to her paper at Turks’ next Life Matters session which will be held in early 2023.

"All the judges felt this year's group of papers was one of the best ever. It really was a blanket finish with each entry gaining favourable comment. In the end though, as a group, we could not go past Elizabeth’s calm and systematic analysis of stapling and how the current system could be improved for all concerned. It was exactly the type of clear and innovative thinking the Scholarship was designed to unearth”, said Alph Edwards, Partner and Practice Head of Turks' Life Insurance, Superannuation & Financial Advice group and member of the scholarship’s judging panel.

The 1st runner-up is, Gail Jones, Head of Underwriting Innovation and Quality Standards at Integrity Life Australia for her paper on ‘Climate Change and Life Insurance'. Gail wins a $1,000 Visa pre-paid gift card. The 2nd runner-up is Lynley Moore, Strategy and Recovery Specialist at MetLife for her paper on 'Real Time Health and Fitness Data. Are Life Insurers Keeping Pace?'. Lynley receives a $250 restaurant voucher.

The Scholarship winners were announced at the ALUCA NSW End of Year Event held in Sydney at the Hilton on 6 December 2022.

The 2023 ALUCA Turks Life Insurance Scholarship will return for its 17th year in mid-2023.
