2021 marks a significant milestone for one of our longest serving Partners and colleague, Pieter Oomens, who has retired from TurksLegal after close to 40 years with the firm.

Many of you will know Pieter as a highly regarded and experienced litigator who has practiced in commercial litigation and insolvency since the early-1980s acting on a number of precedent cases. What is lesser known is that Pieter was one of the first lawyers to join the firm in 1981, becoming an equity partner in 1988 and working closely with founder, Peter Turk, and the other partners who later joined the firm to grow TurksLegal into the specialist insurance, commercial and banking law firm that it is today.

Among his many achievements at Turks, Pieter developed and managed TurksLegal’s 151Z recovery practice, was the Practice Head for our Commercial Transactions and Dispute Resolution team for more than 20 years and in 2017, was appointed as Managing Partner of the firm guiding it to its next major milestone; the appointment of a non-lawyer CEO, Kiri Brain, in 2019.

Over the course of his career Pieter has built a strong and loyal network of clients (most of whom are still with us today) while mentoring a team of commercial/insolvency litigation lawyers who have since gone on to become Turks experts.

As our Commercial team continues to evolve with 10 partners and 21 lawyers, we know that none of this would have been possible without Pieter’s hard work, client focus and dedication to excellence.

Pieter will be missed by us all and we wish him all the best!
