Experience
Sofia is a highly accomplished insurance lawyer with over 17 years’ experience in life insurance, product advice and complex claims (including fraudulent claims), complaints handling, dispute resolution (including AFCA) and litigation across all Victorian jurisdictions. Sofia has extensive experience advising corporate clients on regulatory matters including systemic issues, significant breaches and large-scale consumer remediation.
Prior to joining Turks, Sofia worked as in-house Senior Legal Counsel for 7 years at one of Australia’s largest insurance and financial services companies, advising on claims, products (including policy coverage advice and drafting of policy wording), complex claims (including carrying out investigations/advising on fraudulent claims and claims involving non-disclosure), and privacy complaints. She regularly represented stakeholders in dispute resolution (SCT, FOS, OAIC) and advised on litigation, effective claims handling and underwriting, improved operational procedures.
Sofia’s has a background focus of working at a leading plaintiff law practice, conducting litigation and dispute resolution in life and disability claims, public liability, workers’ compensation, transport accidents, asbestos exposure and major litigation (including class actions).
Sofia’s unique in-house and private practice experience (both plaintiff and defendant) allows her to provide targeted and practical advice to her clients.
Sofia is an active committee member of the ALUCA Victoria sub-group. She regularly provides client training sessions and prepares publications on the practical applications of the law.
